Oscar Alonso

Choreographer and Dancer

Immersed in the world of art from a very early age thanks to his father, an actor and director, Oscar Alonso developed an artistic sensibility that led him to dance. With a career spanning 18 years, he is a versatile artist, combining performance and choreographic creation.

Oscar trained at the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma (2005-2009), where he was part of the school’s company (now La Real), performing works by Nacho Duato, George Balanchine, Robert North, Hans Van Manen, Jorge García, Alberto Méndez, and Nils Christe. After completing his studies, he performed in Romeo y Julieta (2007) by Juan Carlos Santamaría and participated in La Gioconda (2008) at the Teatro Real in Madrid, choreographed by Gheorghe Iancu.

In 2009, Oscar joined Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett, where he has been a principal dancer for 16 years under the direction of Goyo Montero. He has performed leading roles in numerous productions, including:

Cyrano de Bergerac (Cyrano), Albert Dürer (Dürers Dog), Harry Haller (Steppenwolf), Carabosse (Sleeping Beauty), Demi-Sister (Cinderella), Don Quixote and Cervantes (Don Quixote), Tybalt (Romeo and Juliet), The Father of Puck (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)

Throughout his career, he has performed some of the most renowned choreographies from, including Mats Ek, Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe, Nacho Duato, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Marco Goecke, Crystal Pite, Jean-Christophe Maillot, Ohad Naharin, Hofesh Shechter, Johan Inger, Mauro Bigonzetti, Alexander Ekman, Douglas Lee, Jeroen Verbruggen, Cayetano Soto, Jiří Bubeníček, Bryan Arias and Joseph Hernandez.

His choreographic work frequently explores social issues, trauma, addiction, and injustice, approached with both physical technic, emotional sensitivity and interpretation. His pieces have been presented on various stages, including Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett, Schauspielhaus Nürnberg, Staatstheater Cottbus, and the Museo UNAV Theater.

Since 2016, Oscar has also been actively involved in dancer representation, advocating for improved working conditions and salaries, and establishing a crucial dialogue between artists and institutions. His role as a dancer representative at Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett has led him to participate in negotiations with political officials and the theater’s administration. In 2024, he also served as assistant to director Goyo Montero for Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) at Staatstheater Nürnberg.
