Sophie Antoine

Choreographer and Dance Teacher

Sophie Antoine is a Franco-English artist who comes from the world of gymnastics, discovering her passion for dance at the age of 15. She soon embarked on a career that led her to join first the Ballet Biarritz Junior company, then Dantzaz compainia, There, she had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Éric Gauthier, Hilde Koch, Itzik Galili, Christophe Garcia, Thomas Noone, and Gaël Domenger. During this time, she also created her first choreography, Dis-Connected, which became part of the company's repertoire for two years.

In 2010, she joined the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett, directed by Goyo Montero, where she danced until 2017. Throughout these years, she focused on developing her technique and immersing herself in the choreographic languages of numerous influential creators, working with choreographers such as Goyo Montero, Nacho Duato, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Johan Inger, Mauro Bigonzetti, Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Cayetano Soto, Christian Spuck, and James Sutherland, among others. She also performed principal roles such as Carmen (Carmen), the Fairy (Sleeping Beauty), Adagio (Vasos Communicantes), and Dulcinée du Toboso (Don Quixote).

Her choreographic work is based on constant research, drawing from her experience with both professional dancers and students. She enjoys exploring a variety of themes, particularly connectivity and human relationships, while offering a subtle critique of contemporary society.

Alongside her choreographic career, Sophie is involved in teaching. She advocates a pedagogy based on respect and encouragement of each student's personal growth. She has been a member at Mind and Dance, a professional training school in Nuremberg, since 2020, and in 2022, she took on the role of interim artistic director, overseeing the school's artistic and administrative management. This experience allowed her to put her pedagogical and artistic vision into practice, organizing workshops, performances, and daily training sessions while contributing to the evolution of the program.
